Being Valentine’s day, today is supposed to be filled with love, and hearts and showing your affection for others in some way or another. Sure, its easy to jump on the bandwagon and love others unconditionally because of the occasion but what about the other 364 days of the year? Beyond that, what about those people who aren’t so easy to love?
You know who I’m talking about. There are just certain times, and certain people that when combined, make an awful combination. I catch myself getting frustrated and gritting my teeth but for what reason? Certainly I’m not perfect, what if someone else feels the same way about me?
In a Bible study last Thursday night we discussed forgiveness, and the idea that being unwilling to forgive others, we are essentially minimizing the greatness of God’s forgiveness for us. We’ve got plenty of excuses from being too busy, to feeling as if they don’t deserve to be forgiven because of something they once did to us. But when it comes down to it, certainly God has forgiven me for much greater things than the Earthly trials that make me grit my teeth in frustration.
To brighten my mood tonight I jumped on NetFlix and decided to watch a Veggie Tales movie my mom told me was up in lieu of Valentine’s day called “A Silly Thing Called Love”. Though it may seem elementary, these vegetables really have it all figured out. So much of love is being willing to do what God does for us daily. In order to love, we must be willing to forgive. We all have flaws, we all are sinners, yet we are all capable of love because He first loved us.
So on this Valentine’s day, maybe its not all about the gushy love poems, and the chocolate hearts, but about something more substantial, the ability to forgive. We are all in need of forgiveness, and have certainly received more than our fair share. Despite our tendencies to sin, God never puts a limit on his forgiveness, and as His faithful servants, neither should we.
