Passion: What’s in it for you?

Passion: What’s in it for you?

A few nights ago I really couldn’t fall asleep. I wasn’t worried about a test, there was plenty of time for that over the weekend, nor was I stressing about friends, and the fact that everyone keeps commenting that they haven’t seen me in forever. After attending a meeting about the Backpacking Journalism trip this summer, I was just genuinely too excited about life.

I have determined recently that almost nothing scares me anymore, as my passion for wanting to learn anything and all that I can overrides any anxieties or hesitations. And with that, my mind took off. I began to think about all the things I’m passionate about, from running, to my family, to my work ethic, as well as all the opportunities I’ve been presented with throughout my life.

Then I began to think about all the people I’ve been touched by, who inspire me, who I encounter daily, and I couldn’t help but wonder what each of their unique passions are. In thinking about my friends, my family, my professors every one of them is driven by something, and daily makes an impact on my world, Creighton, even the world at large.

Although Valentine’s day may be scoffed at for being a Hallmark holiday, it has the potential to be much more. Love and passion are often synonymous; family, friends, hobbies, we love them because we’re passionate about them in some way or another. Our passions aren’t random either, they were given to us for a purpose, God knowing that with them, we would do great things.

In this same way, Jesus’ love for us isn’t random. He didn’t come to taunt us with false hope or unfulfilled salvation. He came to show us that he is passionately in love with each and every one of us. No matter what drives us, or where our purpose may lie, His one desire is for our passions to lead us to Him, to grow with Him, and learn that he truly is, madly in love with us.
